MEMORANDUM IN SUPPORT OF MOTION TO SEAL COURT RECORDS FOR
CASE NO.
1. This case was dismissed in [Insert Month and Year] because I moved out and there was
no ongoing threat to me. However, the adverse party has been in contact with my school
and is slandering my name. He is purposely misconstruing it to portray me in bad light.
2. For the reason above, I would like this Court to issue an order permanently sealing this
court record pursuant to Rule 2.550 of the California Rules of Court.
3. Rule 2.550 of the California Rules of Court permits a party to move or apply to the Court
for an order sealing a record when there are facts sufficient to justify the sealing. Pursuant
to C.R.C. 2.550(d), the Court may order the record sealed when the following facts are
established: (1) There exists an overriding interest that overcomes the right of public
access to the record; (2) The overriding interest supports sealing the record; (3) A
substantial probability exists that the overriding interest will be prejudiced if the record is
not sealed; (4) The proposed sealing is narrowly tailored; and (5) No less restrictive

means exist to achieve the overriding interest.

the adverse party overcomes the right of public access to the record. There is no
meaningful public interest in disclosure here. This was a case that was dismissed with no
entry of final judgment against any party.
5. There is a substantial probability that [Insert Your Full Name] will be prejudiced if this
record is not sealed. [Insert Your Full Name]’s reputation will be slandered, leading to
irreparable damage to [Insert Your Full Name] among her family, friends, colleagues and
the community in general. This would not only be injurious to her, but unfairly so as she

6. Sealing the record from regular public access is a narrowly tailored remedy, and no less
