RE: COMPLAINT AGAINST PETER, AN ATTORNEY WHO BENEFITED IN AN UNETHICAL MANNER
My name is _______________________, a veteran military with disability, to be specific Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Since 1984, I have been on a quest to get my VA benefits. In 1984 when I moved to Dallas, Texas, I applied for my VA benefits for PTSD, but they were denied. In 1999, I received 10% of my VA benefits. On August 21, 2008, I decided to seek my VA benefits with the help of an attorney named Peter. However, the attorney did not pursue my claim diligently, he claimed to be helping me, but he was not. He said he was helping aggressive veterans on several occasions, those that called and cussed him out. Around January 30, 2012, Peter and I mutually agreed to terminate his services because he was not helping me in any way. Further, we agreed that he would not be paid for my VA benefits claim. After that incident, I communicated with the VA Regional Office; I signed a form that released Peter from his duties and the obligation to receive payment.
Subsequently, I hired a new law firm to represent me on my claim. Currently, I am being required to pay Peter and the new law firm. However, I refuse to pay Peter because he did not work for me or in any of my interests. The Accreditation and Discipline Program Office of General states that if you believe that an attorney, claims agent, veterans service organization (VSO) representative, or other individual or organization has acted in an illegal or unethical manner, you can file a complaint regarding their conduct. And the Office of General Counsel (OGC) of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is authorized to investigate complaints regarding VA- accredited individuals, when appropriate.
I want to file a complaint against Peter as his actions are against the popular yet flattering spirit of love and support for veterans.
