To the Executive Board,
This letter aims to refute the false accusations of my colleague, Matthew J. Phillips, and set out the truth.
I am a dedicated volunteer and chief, a person of integrity, and am kind, so Matthew J. Phillips’s comments that I could be considered a domestic terrorist are unfounded, heinously inflammatory, and false. I have never attacked him in any way, and his claim that I have is due to the negative attitude that he has against me. Every time I speak to him, he views it as an attack, and there is no middle ground to have a productive team. Subsequently, over the past year, I have limited our interactions.
Secondly, I have tried to schedule meetings with him to iron out any issues, but he has turned down my request each time and then would shift the blame onto me, stating that I was the one who refused to meet. I have documentation that supports my statements and are available for review. Hence, he cannot claim hostility when he refuses us to meet and settle any disputes.
Thirdly, Matthew outrightly lied by stating that I promised to give the “volunteer of the year award” in his email. I never nominated him for office, as the previous chief did that.
Lastly, his statement that I contributed to a hostile work environment that I force him to endure is false. North Brunswick First Aid and Rescue Squad is a volunteer-run organization, and because of its volunteer nature, I cannot force anyone to do anything but expose them to a harsh work environment and enforce that the standards set forth are followed for the safety of our crews and our patients. Therefore, his claims can be considered to have been motivated by falsehood and malice.
Should he want to substantiate his claims, he should provide evidence for the same.
