Careers in the Justice System

Law enforcement

A police officer

For one to be a police officer, he or she has to have undergone the necessary training in accordance with the law. A police officer should have professional standards which is upheld and promoted by the Professional Standards department. This department is responsible for investigating any officer who does not meet such standards. These standards are meant to promote accountability since the police belong to public offices.

Courts

A human rights attorney

A human rights attorney is mandated with the task of dealing with human rights cases in and out of court. An attorney is required to have professional standards since the attorney represent the court system in the administration of justice. The National lawyer Regulatory Data Bank is responsible for regulating the conduct relating to lawyers in the US. The Data Bank is responsible for the issuing of information to bar admission agencies and disciplinary authority to facilitate discipline among lawyers.

Correction

A corrections officer

The professional conduct that a corrections officer should adhere to should be in line with the goals and mission of the corrections department. (Seung- Bum Yang, 2011) Although different states have different laws, the aim of adhering to such standards is the administration of justice within the confines of the law and integrity.

How the three careers work together

In general, a police officer would make an arrest if there is a probable cause for arrest. The defendant might seek the services of an attorney like a human rights attorney depending on the case at hand. For instance, if the defendant is found guilty, then he might be taken to a prison where he shall be under the care of the corrections officer.

Current trends in the police department

One of the current trends in this area involves the use of police powers. The increase in police powers is aimed at increasing conviction rates therefore reducing crimes.(Kate & Richard, 2010).

However, some officers have been misusing that power therefore causing more harm than good. For instance, police brutality occasioned on citizenry.
