The Difference in Healthcare Politics Between the US and Canada

Healthcare structure is one of the key differences. The US has a predominantly private healthcare system, and it mainly relies on a combination of private health insurance coverage, employer-sponsored plans, government programs that include Medicare and Medicaid, and out-of-pocket payments (Zuberi, D. (2019). Unlike the US, Canada has a publicly funded and administered healthcare system known as Medicare. It provides universal coverage to all the citizens of Canada as well as permanent residents. The government finances healthcare through taxation and services that private practitioners, as well as hospitals, deliver.

Secondly, the other difference is coverage and access. In the US, access to healthcare is not universal, and around 9% of the population still needs to be insured. The coverage mainly varies depending on the type of insurance and affordability (Zuberi, D. (2019). In Canada, healthcare is said to be one of the fundamental rights, and all citizens have access to medically necessary services regardless of their ability to pay. However, wait times for certain procedures and specialist appointments can concern the Canadian system.

How the Two Countries Finance Their Healthcare Systems

In the US healthcare system is primarily funded through the combination of private health insurance and public programs. Private health insurance is where most Americans receive insurance coverage through their employers or they purchase it individually. Also, in the US, it is paid through Government programs where the US government provides healthcare coverage to certain populations through various programs such as Medicare, which is for individuals 65 years and above (Doenmez et al., 2021). In Canada, the healthcare system is publicly funded and primarily financed through taxes. It is funded through government funding, where the majority of healthcare funding in Canada comes from the revenue taxes collected by the federal, provincial, and territorial governments.

Insight into How Political Roles Impact my Role and that of My Organization

Political roles have built my policy as well as the regulatory environment. This has helped me play a crucial role in shaping policies and regulations that affect various sectors, including healthcare and finance. The changes I make in my organization directly impact my organization’s operations, compliance requirements, and strategic decision-making. Because of this, it becomes very important to stay informed about the political developments that are taking place in the organization.

One of the major ways to improve the US healthcare system is through universal access to healthcare. The best approach to this is achieving universal access to healthcare, ensuring that all Americans have affordable and comprehensive health insurance coverage. This can be done by expanding things such as Medicaid eligibility, implementing a single-payer system, or creating a public option for health insurance. The US can also employ cost control and affordability, addressing the rising healthcare costs, which is a practical aspect of improving the system. Also, cons control and affordability should be controlled. This will help address the rising healthcare cost, which is crucial in improving the system. In addition, the US should include measures to promote price transparency, increase competition among providers and insurers, negotiate drug prices, reduce administrative overhead expenses, and implement cost containment strategies.

Recommendations for America to remain as a Free Market System or Transition to a Universal Healthcare System

The US should increase the competition and choice for a free market system. The US should promote competition among healthcare providers and insurers to reduce costs and improve quality. Price transparency will enable consumers to compare costs and make informed decisions. This will help encourage market forces, drive down prices, and increase value.
