I am writing this letter alongside the OIC complaint to report concerns about the conduct and performance of [ENTER NAME]. [ENTER NAME] is an Assistant Manager, of staff I.D. [ENTER HER STAFF I.D.].
First, I highly appreciate the fact that the Company has set in place systems and measures to ensure that the establishment’s affairs run in order. Specifically, your core values promote and maintain a safe and healthy working environment for all your employees and customers. However, there exists a lack of inclusion, collaboration, and assistance for African American employees in the screening department at the Company. In the said department, African American employees are marginalised and discriminated upon.
In that regard, I received reports from two of my Assistant Managers against [ENTER NAME] for Cultural insensitivities and inappropriate comments made by the said employee in relation to African American employees. I had also experienced some culturally insensitive comments from the employee, in my encounters with her. Consequently, I held a meeting with the two Assistant Managers and the Director where we discussed the employee’s inappropriate comments and her work performance.
Accordingly, I gave her my feedback concerning her performance and the insensitive comments she was making. The said employee responded by filing a complaint to the Director. I could not give any further response about the employee to the Director because the Director was away.
At the moment, I have shifted into another position in the Company. However, other employees still raise concerns about how she treats and makes inappropriate comments about African American employees. She did not interact with them in the same manner as other employees. She only greeted, grouped up, and spoke with Non-African American employees. It is reported that she claimed that African American employees looked differently because they changed their hair frequently. She also stated that she was disgusted by the African American employees because they always kept long fingernails.
One African American employee testified of how [ENTER NAME] was dismissive of the African American employee when the said employee sought guidance from her. This conduct was also observed by other African American employees because the employee only engaged in conversations with the Non-African American employees. Another African American employee testified that they once needed assistance from [ENTER NAME]. However, [ENTER NAME] failed to help the employee. Seeing no assistance from [ENTER NAME], the employee decided to seek help from me. Later, [ENTER NAME] was upset that the employee reported her to me and retaliated by continuing to ignore the employee.
The employee’s conduct violates the laws on discrimination, fair labour practises, and the Company’s Work Employment Policy. Accordingly, the employee’s conduct and performance should be subjected to your keen investigation. And if found liable, appropriate measures should be taken against her.
