Dear Sir/Madam,
Re: APPLICATION FOR CONVENTION AGAINST TORTURE PROTECTION
My name is XXX, a resident of the State of [Insert State]. I am applying for
Convention Against Torture (CAT) protection to stay in the XXXX. My
circumstances warrant that I be granted protection.
In XXX, I cooperated with the U.S. government and testified against brothers
Terrence Peters and Spence Peters in criminal proceedings. The brothers are highly
connected to the government of XXX. When they travelled from the XXXX. to Trinidad,
they were accompanied by police who acted as their bodyguards. This was confirmed
when Terrence Peters sent me pictures with their police bodyguards on numerous trips.
My life will be in danger if I am deported back to Trinidad. Terrence vowed to
make me pay for violating his trust, and while I was at XXX and he was at
XXXX Big Sandy, he sent “word” with someone that left Big Sandy and transferred to
XXX that I testified against him and “I was to be dealt with.” Word spread on the
compound S.I.S found out, and I was transferred to another F.C.I. and was released in
November XXX. My late uncle Michael Matthews who introduced me to Terrence was
murdered in Trinidad on December XXXX, one month after my release. This case is
still unsolved in Trinidad.
Substantial grounds exist to believe that I will be tortured. Terrence Peters, the
man I testified against, has already warned me that I will be dealt with for betraying him.
My uncle who introduced us was murdered and the case is mysteriously unsolved. It is
more likely than not that I will be tortured and/or killed if I am deported back to Trinidad.
Due to the connections that the Peters brothers have with the XXX government, I
am certain that they will act with no fear of repercussions from the government.
The harm I will face in Trinidad meets the definition of torture under the CAT as
follows: “any intentional unlawful infliction of severe (physical or mental) suffering or
pain, with consent of a public official, for purposes such as punishment, obtaining a
confession, intimidation, or discrimination.” Since I aided the U.S. government and
testified against Terrence Peters and Spence Peters, it is only proper that I receive CAT
protection from the U.S. government. Instead of being deported back to XXX, I
would be open to deportation to England, Canada and Germany where the Peters
brothers will not reach me.
REASONS WHEREFORE, PREMISES CONSIDERED, I respectfully request
you to GRANT my application for Convention Against Torture protection.
Yours Sincerely,
