PROCLAMATION OF THE CITY OF HOLLY SPRINGS
DECLARING JANUARY 29TH, 2021 AS TIFFANY BOYD-WATSON DAY AND THE MONTH OF JANUARY AS CERVICAL CANCER AWARENESS MONTH IN HOLLY SPRINGS
WHEREAS, the City of Holly Springs is declaring January 29th, 2021 as Tiffany Boyd-Watson day and Cervical Cancer Awareness Month in recognition of former dedicated community member Tiffany Boyd-Watson; and
WHEREAS, Tiffany Boyd-Watson was a dedicated nursing home caregiver for many years at Holly Springs Health/Rehab, Trinity Mission of Holly Springs and was diagnosed with cervical cancer during her tenure; and
WHEREAS, Tiffany Boyd-Watson attended many community events to spread awareness as long as she could while battling cervical cancer and passed away while Inspiring the City of Holly Springs to fight no matter what; and
WHEREAS; each year, nearly 13,000 women across the United States are diagnosed with cervical cancer, and more than 4,000 die from the disease; and
WHEREAS; while treatments for cervical cancer do exist, the side effects can be devastating to those who survive; and
WHEREAS; the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) has been identified as the main cause of cervical cancer, and the HPV vaccine along with regular screenings and Pap tests can be effective preventive tools for women in Wisconsin and throughout the country; and
WHEREAS; this month, the City of Holly Springs honors those whose lives have been affected by cervical cancer and joins survivors, activists, and organizations across our city, state and country in raising awareness about symptoms, reducing the stigma surrounding diagnoses, and expanding access to cervical cancer treatment and prevention for women across our city and state.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Kevin Buck, Mayor of the CITY OF HOLLYSPRINGS, do hereby proclaim January 29th 2021 as Tiffany Boyd-Watson day and the month of January 2021 as CERVICAL CANCER AWARENESS MONTH throughout the CITY OF HOLLY SPRINGS and I commend this observance to all our city’s residents.
